Day One (7 hours)

We begin the class with the human bone structure and anatomy.  This is a critical to the process of sculpting realistic human figures.  If you don’t understand what lies beneath the skin, you struggle throughout this class and going forward. The underlying anatomy influences movement.  Once this is understood, we build the facial features; eyes, nose, mouth and ears while discussing the expressions on the human face.

Day Two (7 hours)

Our focus will be the neck and shoulders to create the pose. At that point, we'll add hair.  Hair, like drapery must have the correct flow. Movement and shadows are important aspects of sculpture. Both can be obtained with hair flow and/or the muscles of the neck.

We finish with hollowing out the sculpture and finalizing the textures and detailing the features.

LIBRARY EXHIBIT IN JUNE

Shortly before publication of the newsletter, The Nevada Clay Guild received an invitation to exhibit at the Sahara West Library Art Gallery.  The exhibit is scheduled for June 29 – August 26, 2017.  Although details have not been ironed out by the committee, it is important for Guild members to start planning, and keeping their best work for the exhibit.  This location has the tall, museum style display cases, so larger pieces can be exhibited and are encouraged.  Like last year, each member will be able to submit 2 – 3 well made pieces.  The reception is scheduled for the opening day from 5-6:30 pm.  Details will follow in the next newsletter as well as in electronic communications.
